Justice for Jussie? IL Supreme Court overturns Smollett conviction for lying to cops – Cook County Record

The court said it would be "unjust" to allow Jussie Smollett's conviction to stand in light of the deal he struck with the office of Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx, which allowed him to end the action against him by paying $10,000 and performing minimal "community service." The unanimous court said the special prosecution, jury trial and conviction that followed amounted to violations of Smollett's right to due process.

Illinois. Where justice is unjust.

Let’s not forget, there is a civil suit pending that is to be adjudicated.

The special prosecutor said; “Rather, today’s decision is only possible because of the unprecedented resolution of Mr. Smollett’s initial case by the Cook County State’s Attorneys’ Office (CCSAO) in March 2019, which the Illinois Supreme Court determined barred Mr. Smollett from any further prosecution. The Illinois Supreme Court reached this decision notwithstanding the fact that the CCSAO dismissed the initial Smollett case via a nolle prosequi, which does not bar re-prosecution under Illinois law, and Mr. Smollett’s own lawyers told the public immediately following the dismissal of his initial case in March 2019 that there was ‘no deal’ with the… Read more »

Well now the voters in Cook County voted overwhelmingly for Foxx and are getting a taste of what her incompetence has done. Will democrats in Chicago/Cook ever learn? Most likely not and I hope and pray they get what they deserve.

Sean Wieber, of Webb’s special prosecutors’ office, said ruling for Smollett would instead run counter to a century of precedent in Illinois law that he said has held that defendants released under a nolle prosequi arrangement can still be prosecuted without violating their rights.

The law is likely right here, the problem with this is of course…Kim Foxx. Her stupid decision to enter the deal early on is what caused the issue now. What is so pathetic about this, is the complete lack of apology, responsibility taking and humility from Juicy. He appears to act completely innocent and vindicated with this decision. The fact still remains that he is a liar and caused a bunch of Chicago and Illinois law enforcement resources to spend a great deal of time and effort to investigate what turned out to be a theatrical production on the street.… Read more »

And we wonder why folks have a jaundiced view of our “justice” system. Pathetic.

Further proof the IL Supreme Court is not a real Court just a banana republic bench.

You elected that wookie as your state’s attorney. This hilarious saga of stupidity is on Cook county voters. You elect stupid, you get stupid. I am hard pressed tomorrow to imagine an electorate as brain dead as what passes for humans in Illinois.

Another example of the incompetent individuals voted into office solely because they were democrats with no ability to perform the job. Kim Foxx negotiated a deal behind the backs of everyone and offered a sweetheart deal to Juicy because he was aligned with the almighty obammy family and now it comes back to bite the real justice in the behind. All of these clowns are laughing. Juicy, Foxx, obammy, preckwinkle and the cook county democrat organization are celebrating a victory for justice. Wait until the lawsuit against the CPD is filed for malicious prosecution, the city most likely will end… Read more »

IANAL, but doesn’t a judge have to agree to a plea bargain? Doesn’t the judge have the ultimate say whether a plea bargain is accepted? I thought the judge threw out the plea bargain and that’s why a special prosecutor was appointed. This throws away 1,000 years of historical justice.

The notion that Jussie would be punished accordingly is laughable. From the onset, the skids were greased to find this hack actor innocent of any wrongdoing. The 10K he forfeited is small potatoes compared to the time and manpower expended to search for two non-existent white supremacists. More garbage from Foxx and company.

It’s ‘just us’, not ‘justice’…

Disgusting and not a surprise. Just another democrat run Two Tiered Justice System. It’s good to be pals with Kimm Foxx and Toni Taxwinkle. But at least Juicy was right about one thing judging by the last election: “This is MAGA Country!!!”. The real justice though, is that Juicy’s pathetic career is over. He hung himself by his own noose.

Justice for Jussie would be hard time for the fraud and “hate crime” he perpetrated on Chicago, the CPD and residents of the city. Throwing this out on a technicality makes him no less guilty. He is a laughingstock that will get second chances due to boxes he checks. America is growing tired of this BS, and any network that gives this loser an opportunity should be held accountable.
