Approximately 11,000 Chicago households are on a waiting list to get a meter, and city crews will strive to fulfill as many requests as possible before Jan. 1, when a new state law will take effect in Chicago that will require homes with lead service lines to have those replaced before a meter is installed.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
