Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Use non union labor and your construction dollars will go at least 30% further. Standing there holding a sign that says “SLOW” (truth in advertising BTW, it should say “LAZY” on the backside)
Gasoline tax increase is due to “congested traffic.” Construction projects are progressing in response to poor traffic conditions. Example: Route 45 bypass near Grass Lake Rd, formerly known as ” Milburn Strangler.” Here is a referred map of roads that are supposedly in need of improvement. However, there are highlighted streets near me (Wadsworth area) where I rarely see ANY severe traffic build up. Perhaps the projections of poor traffic conditions are being overly stated and highly emphasized for the sake of increasing gasoline tax – in a state that has already recently DOUBLED gas tax. A state that has… Read more »
Meet the NEW CROOK COUNTY
Wisconsin is pretty close for me. This morning gas was 2.89 in Fox lake. Just across the border in Wisconsin, it was 2.64. Where do you think I am going to buy gas in the future? Sure it’ a few minutes longer to get gas and probably a wash for the few extra miles. I do get the great satisfaction that the arrogant Lake County wastrels in the Waukegan “Tower of Perverted Power” won’t be wasting my money. All of you peasants, I hope you enjoy the cake that Queen Sandy Hart wants to let you eat.
I’m 5 minutes from the border, get gas, go shopping, stop for lunch. I love spending $$$ someplace where Pritzger cant get his hands on it.
I used to fill up my car about 70 times a year, now I fill it up 6 times a year. Gas isn’t as profitable as it used to be.
Here’s a variation of a comment posted many times: instead of eternally raising taxes, when will the problems of bloated salaries and pensions, and free health care be resolved?
More taxes placed on the backs of middle class working men and women who need to use their own transportation to go to work. The article noted that constituents were overwhelmingly against the tax but, too bad, so sad the politicians demand more and they know what’s best. Many in Lake County are a short trip to Wisconsin where gas prices are usually lower. Deny the idiot politicians their blood money buy gas and groceries in Cheeseland.
Politicians are too stupid to figure that out. I rarely buy gas in the city that I live in. It’s only a few cents less in the next town but if I’m going that way why pay extra if I don’t have to.
