Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Aug 16 CWB article notes punchline: the 8 black teens who were mugging folks in Streeterville (McClurg Court area) fled into a residential building on 400 East Ohio block. That’s a Habitat building, notorious corporate slum-lord, Valerie Jarrett’s former domain. This is a badly-managed apartment tower filled with unruly Sec 8 tenants, a blight upon our neighborhood, and often identified as residence of Streeterville’s local street-crime arrestees.
