A Chicago Bears fan takes his seat early before a game at Soldier Field on Jan. 8, 2023.The plan also would pool revenue generated on the site from state sales tax, hotel tax and liquor taxes and a new 3% surcharge on sports betting revenue into a fund to help Arlington Heights and surrounding communities pay for infrastructure improvements.

Powerful Illinois’ Democrat-n-progressive constituencies at odds with one another and Chicago and Johnson are right in the middle of all of it, and he’s not even in office yet. The way I read this, Arlington Heights and the other Cook County ‘Burbs have been talking to each other and the Bears, and are pretty much on the same page. Bears build it with private investment, and get a fixed property tax deal. Guvmn’t pays for streets and sewers. Pritzker says that “Of course the state will help with infrastructure,” but hem’s-n-haws on committing to the fixed property tax deal. Chicago… Read more »

Doesn’t the Arlington heights site have to be built first?

Why wait?

Assuming the Bears faithfully complete their contract with Chicago, why should their enterprise be taxed to pay down a political folly?

I don’t understand.

Soldier Field debt was completely mismanaged. They should put the people in charge in Jail for what they did to the taxpayers. It was criminal behavior for sure.
Sell it to the Teachers Retirment Fund and the CTU they deserve it.

This is not that terrible soccer stadium in Bridgeview in the middle of an industrial area. The new… Read more »

So….fans would pay off the debt? Couldn’t the Bears raise ticket prices $3 and pay off the debt themselves. Tomato tomato.

So 80k tickets per game and 10 games a year. $3 per ticket gets you 2.4 million per year. Don’t think that will be enough money.

10 games a year? Nuh-uh! 2 preseason, 9 regular season, plus 2 playoffs for a total of 13 games! Worst to First, keeping the dream alive!
