Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Reading this woman’s perception of the morass in Congress informs me of a central truth: We were in the same theater but we watched completely different movies. Also, Lauren is probably a one-termer to begin within, and voting for impeachment is going to put her out of a job. But she might get an even better, higher paying job as a lobbyist. She may never return to this district again. Another slow trickle of people leaving Illinois…
