U.S. Reps. Sean Casten, Delia Ramirez, Bill Foster, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Mike Quigley, and Jesus "Chuy" Garcia have sent DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick a letter chastising him for saying he won't enforce the ban. "As Sheriff, you do not have the authority to set enforcement priorities based on your personal views of a law's constitutionality. Moreover, by choosing not to enforce the law, you will put the safety of DuPage residents and law enforcement officers at risk," they wrote (with link to the full letter).
Exactly, Dana. And Kim Foxx ignores laws just because she doesn’t like them, not because of a reasonable belief they are unconstitutional. The hypocrisy is extreme.

Casten would know a little something about disregarding safety risks.

My understanding is that peace officers’ oath is to uphold both the U.S. Constitution and Illinois laws. If a law violates the U.S. Constitution law enforcement is in a difficult position. The Illinois ban appears to be in contradiction to the 2nd Amendment and until the constitutionality of the Illinois ban is determined, it should be on hold. A letter from a group of partisan politicians won’t likely break that impasse, a ruling from the Supreme Court will. And on the topic of not enforcing laws, perhaps the congressional members should consider enforcing cooperation with ICE, securing the southern border,… Read more »
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
Does that mean Larry Lightfoot has to follow US immigration law now?
Ok, fine. Now do Kim Fox.

Yes, correct on all points. We will have a piece up on that shortly.
A strongly worded letter.
Keep in mind, Sheriff Mendrick – a Republican – was just elected a several weeks county wide with 241,641 votes, in an election with no opponent.
He got more votes than anyone else signing their name to that letter.
His response should be to ignore them.
I think his response should be “You ignore the Constitution. I don’t.”
