Lawmakers planning more action as kids continue to sleep in DCFS offices, welcome centers – WICS (Springfield)

At a hearing in September, DCFS said that of the 197 children who have stayed in an office or welcome center over the last year, approximately 20 children spent more than 24 hours there. The longest stay was just under three weeks. “We have a responsibility as their guardians to take the best care possible of them and we are not doing that,” said Rep. Kathy Willis. “We are failing.”
