Lawmakers say educational investments are not paying off in Illinois – Center Square

State Rep. Brad Holbrook said years of increased taxpayer spending on education hasn't shown results. “We’ve been putting money into these programs for a long time, and there is little evidence to suggest that these programs are accomplishing anything in terms of reading or math proficiencies."

First they need to fix the society, so they can get better parents who read to their children, and THEN this investment will surely pay huge dividends. We just need to make sure we keep investing year after year.

Never, and I mean, never did my parents read to us or get involved with our studies. They were OUR studies, not theirs. Dad became a master mechanic; Mom kept a home and did factory or retail work. Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
