Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Apparently, the Mayor and Police Chief reject the use of military to protect against looting because it would be scary to “her people”. Good to know, she has no interest in protection of private property. Residents should act accordingly.
“We must move forward…..” Who is we? Is it the looters who wantonly destroy property and injure others? Is it the leaders who have sacrificed their cities to the mob for either political gain, ignorance, or to signal their virtues? I’d also like to hear Lori ask african-americas reduce their overall proportional share of the crime in Chicago. They are overrepresented in crime statistics at every level and it’s inequitable to whites asians and hispanics that blacks get to commit all the crimes. I know it’s not PC to say this but it’s the truth. Less crime in the community means less interaction with police which means less police brutality. I think it’s insane that a 5 year girl was shot one day before the rioting started. The police arrested the suspect and then a crowd of people surrounded the police car, and was beating on vehicle, trying to free the very guy who just shot a 5 year old girl. This past weekend resulted in the deadliest May weekend in Chicago history. No protests for that, no protests for the 26 dead this weekend. Just rioting and burning their own neighborhoods.
