Letter from Ken Griffin: Stop attacking me and focus on Chicago’s real problems, Crain’s – Crain’s*

Citadel founder Ken Griffin"A recent Crain's editorial, 'A pass-the-popcorn moment for Chicagoans' (Oct. 2), presents a misguided narrative on my concerns about the film 'Dumb Money' and the future of Chicago. Let's start with the film. My team identified some glaring factual inaccuracies in a trailer promoting 'Dumb Money' and raised those with the studio. As I told CNBC a few weeks ago, I haven't seen the film, but I look forward to watching it. I hope the studio produced a great movie and that it offers important lessons for American investors....Turning to Chicago, Crain's Editorial Board demonstrated a complete lack of integrity in criticizing me for raising my voice about the worsening plight of the city I called home for over 30 years. Rather than point a finger at me for expressing real concerns about the direction Chicago and Illinois are headed in, Crain's should devote its coverage to holding elected officials in the city and state responsible for their continued dereliction of duty."

Did Griffin really expect the leftist media to actually look at their patrons who are running the city into the ground?

Interesting…!!! Ken Griffin plans to build the most expensive home on Earth — a $1B mega-estate By Mary K. Jacob – OCTOBER 18, 2023 https://nypost.com/2023/10/18/inside-ken-griffins-plans-to-build-a-1b-megalith-property/ “Palm Beach, Florida, a playground for the rich and famous, is no stranger to opulence. But it seems that billionaire hedge-fund manager Ken Griffin is taking luxury living to a whole new level. Griffin, already a prominent figure in the seaside town and a Florida native, is turning heads with his ambitious plans to create the most expensive home not just in America — but on the planet. The enigmatic financier, known for his vast… Read more »

So what? I’ll bet he keeps the toilets connected to pay his fair share of real estate taxes too.

Crain’s made itself worthless when it failed to remove GH… That guy is the antithesis of business… Yep, business… In any form…

The city is falling… Riding in an Uber to the loop for a dinner, a car next to the one in which I traveled rolled down its window to verbally assault my driver in very colorful terms using specific language that cannot be repeated… Never saw that in the first 27 years in which I lived in the city… Crazy.

Great job BJ and JB. You guys are winning!

Every citizen taxpayer, large and small, has the right and duty to question their government – That’s the foundation of the Constitution. Crain’s has obviously gone full Marxist. Not sure who exactly in the private business community they are trying to appeal to. Crain’s can take it’s paywall and put it where the sun doesn’t shine.

Chicago/IL owes so much to Ken Griffin….he should be and has earned absolutely the right to be treated to a high degree of respect, and IL/CHI should listen closely to what he has to say…

This is the way it’s supposed to work: “Independent news media uses its watchdog role to investigate and report on government mistakes and wrongdoing and hold those in power accountable for their actions.”

I was a Crain’s subscriber for years. I canceled my subscription after Crain’s decided that “woke” reporting was a good idea. For a while, after St. Floyd of Fentanyl, it was like reading a BLM newspaper. As Griffin suggests, Chicago has gone nearly full “Mad Max” and Crain’s still won’t hold those in power accountable for their actions… and inactions.

You, and I, and Ken, we don’t want to live in a Mad Max world. But BJ, Toni, and the rest of them already live in a Mad Max world, and have been living that way for a long, long time. Now that they are in charge, they want to bring Mad Max to the rest of the county. You may ask yourself, “Why would they want to do this?” And I answer that Johannesburg, and Pretoria, and Caracas used to be wonderful, vibrant first world cities. And then, the residents decided to go full socialist (aka commie) and then… Read more »

Much of what the West “knows” about South Africa is a lie.

Chicago and Illinois politicians will never focus on the real problem it’s easier to blame everyone else.

Crain’s, along with the rest of the Chicago media, have been the main cheerleaders for the political class that has destroyed a great city and a fine state. The reporting defies logic and reason and asks Chicagoans to ignore their lying eyes. Brandon Johnson and JB the Hutt represent the dregs of governance, yet the Chicago media simply regurgitate these cretins’ inane press releases and call it news.

Note to Chicago’s media:
Trump was right. About everything.
The media was wrong. About everything.

Thanks for nothing, Chicago media stooges.

Starting with channel 9. If the Democrat Party wanted to create a propaganda channel for the unwashed, and label it News, it would look exactly like channel 9.

My vote should go to channel 7. Half their news is a Disney commercial.

Hurray for Griffin. Crain’s has been a big part of the problem in the decline of Chicago over the last two decades. Supposedly the City’s local business source for news, they have totally missed the debt, crime and education problems that they should have in depth expertise on. In particular, their total failure on highlighting the year by year growth of the unfunded pension liabilities is shameful. Their coverage of the debacles in Springfield over the years has been bush league. Crain’s took a total dive on Rich Daley’s parking meter and parking lot deals, and only started looking at… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
