Letters: Stop expecting seniors to be patient and fix the vaccination distribution in Illinois – Chicago Tribune*

"How does a senior in the care of both a pulmonologist and a cardiologist have to register with every pharmacy in the area for a vaccine instead of getting it from her own physicians’ group? Not only has Illinois been woefully poor at distribution, but also, Mom’s two health systems take a mystifying “don’t call us; we’ll call you” approach."

What would you like them to fix? Based on the number of available doses it will take 3 or 4 months to vaccinate everyone in 1b group which your mother belongs. The problem with this wait time is other people may get the vaccine at the beginning of the rollout period while others will be 3 or 4 months later. Your mom has been given priority to be among the first 3.2 million (both 1a and 1b) residents of Illinois. People have been prioritized in this group over others but it’s clearly a large group. How are you measuring? Percentage of doses administered vs received? percentage of the population? Illinois has administered about 70% of their doses received while Florida has administered about 69%. Florida has received about 80% more doses than Illinois even though their population is only 70% larger than Illinois. Are they receiving these doses unfairly or is their population older and they are receiving an appropriate allocation.
