Mayor Lori Lightfoot took time out last weekend for the perfect place to cool off from the city heat: officiating at the wedding of Chris Kennedy, grandson of the late, great Robert F. Kennedy, and his bride, Erin Daigle, at the legendary Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

So what personal connection does Lightfoot actually have to this 3rd-generation Kennedy hanger-on couple? The cynic in me notes that Lightfoot is too dense to note that this generation of Kennedy Family has no power in Democratic Party to catapult her out of Chiraq’s disarray on to national stage.
