Lightfoot orders audit to narrow gender, racial pay gap among city workers – Chicago Sun-Times

An equal-pay rally outside the Thompson Center in 2019.A new executive order requires the city to conduct a “comprehensive pay equity audit” every two years to identify “gender and racial” differences in employee compensation in its workforce of 32,000. Three city departments will be required to compare job titles, bargaining units, sex, race and ethnicity, come clean about the findings and take specific actions to remedy “gender or racial disparities.” Mayor Lori Lightfoot also announced the entire city workforce will be required to undergo a day-and-a-half of training on “gender-based violence and harassment in the workplace.”

Democrats purposely created pay and equity gaps in their workforce? Who’da thunk?

Many of these employees are under union contracts with salary schedules. The others are subject to pay grades and other typical public sector limits on salary. I can’t imagine they’ll find much unless they see lower level employees are performing tasks of their managers, which means bye-bye managers.

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
