Mayor Lori Lightfoot is set to back an ordinance that would clamp down on carbon emissions from newly constructed buildings in Chicago, forcing most if not all new construction to fuel heat and cooking with electricity rather than natural gas.

She is a moron, like every government person. Whatever it the worst possible choice is that is what a government employee makes. They do not care about the taxpayer. Being stupid is the only qualification the have.

Tier 2 housing. My Tier 1 domicile has now increased in value. Will construction permits increase with these diminished kitchens?

Electric heat is far less efficient than gas heat. Then add in the losses involved in burning natural gas to create the electricity and you’ll find that the net effect will be more consumption of natural gas than current state. None of that matters though when you a righteous on carbon.

She just reduced the interested buyer count for new buildings in Chicago by 50%. This should reduce the price of those buildings. Great work Lori, everyone, literally everyone with any experience of living in or near Chicago knows we life with gas here, and they won’t want a building without it.

Is’t the former speaker in big trouble because of wrong doing with COM-ED. Didn’t COM-ED just ask for rate hikes? Now Natural gas is bad, COM-ED is good?? Just saying

Well if nuclear power was widespread this idea would be feasible. However, Illinois will simply burn more natural gas to generate the electricity to heat buildings.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
