Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Larry must have big visions maybe it’s her/his hormone therapy
“In a statement on Monday, a Bears spokesman said the only option the franchise is interested in exploring for a new stadium is the Arlington Park site.”
She’s wasting time on money on a dead issue rather than addressing any of the very real issues this city is struggling with.
Today’s NFL, where last year’s revenue topped $11bn, is tracking to reach $25bn by 2027.
The McCaskeys will be teeming with options for the land they own around the new stadium. They will have complete control on all sources of income.
The city of Chicago doesn’t stand a chance, as it quite rightly should not.
Lightfoot’s legacy LOL!
Lori doing the good work on behalf of Chicago! Putting a dome on a junkyard! I would find the Bears more entertaining if every game was a massive loss. The Bears haven’t been fun since Ditka and McMahon departed. The only people who care about the Bears are the McCaskeys. They’re clever too! Regardless the outcome; They Win!
Oops, I forgot to mention that the State of Michigan helped finance the Silverdome back in the seventies.
Recently, Fiat Chrysler rented the Silverdome parking lot to store their test cars. It was sold to a developer for the low price of $250,000 and has since been torn down.
Chicagoans, I fear a similar fate is in store for Soldier Field. Don’t throw good money after bad.
Folks, the “Detroit Lions” actually played in a domed stadium called the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan for 30 years. They were never referred to as the Pontiac Lions and nobody is going to refer to the Arlington Bears. One of my theories as to why the Lions were mediocre to awful all that time is they needed to play out side in bad weather to become a better football team. Think of the Green Bay Packers under Vince Lombard. Anyway, since life has become so cheap in Chicago I suggest that Lori repurpose Soldier Field into the Taj Mahal of… Read more »
Lightfoot Offers To Put A Dome On Soldier Field, At A Potential Cost Of $2.2 Billion, In A Desperate Attempt To Keep The Bears In Chicago Or Save Face If They Leave For Arlington Heights
Maybe after spending $2B to renovate and put a roof on top they could have the world’s largest Pawn Daddy shop or a giant pot shop. Hubcaps-wigs/flea market-selling newly jacked cars. Possibilities are endless.
The footprint at Soldier Field is too small. Arlington Heights is better for a host of practical development reasons. The Bears will still be called ‘Chicago Bears’.
This all just an exercise in RHETORIC the BEARS didn`t spend $192,000,000 to stay in Chicago the BEARS are GONERS
I love how Chicago mayors always describe something in the city as “world class”.
But real world class cities never have to describe their city as such, it just is, and everyone knows it.
Yes, using the term “world-class” indicates delusional thinking.
I work for a small manufacturing company that struggles every day to make parts that pass QC and ship on time. The owner insists we are a “world-class” operation.
