Lightfoot’s monuments panel recommends permanently sidelining 3 Columbus statues, removing Balbo monument – Chicago Sun-Times*

Italian-American Ald. Nick Sposato, who served on the 30-member committee, said the outcome was pre-determined by the fact that its members were, as he put it, “27 lefties and three righties” including himself.

Lori, maybe you should ask regular tax paying Chicagoans… What a bunch of garbage. While, measured in the lenses of today’s SJW’s, Columbus, as with ALL humans, wasn’t perfect. However, he did, in the age of SAILING across the ocean, kind of stone up and make a journey of exploration with NO guarantee of survival…

Any of the folks who voted against replacing these statues are now a known commodity.

Without question, the culture war is only going to worsen.

As people rich & poor of all ilks continue to flee Chicago, who do the wakie woke hope to attract into Chicago by tearing down Chicago/ American history? Upper income blacks–they’re moven to Atlanta. Upper income urban tech hipsters types–they’re moven to Austin and smaller hipster cities… so who’s left? who’s going to pay the bills when the fed covid $ run out? where’s the growth?

Actually, the influx of new mexican immigrant to Chicago WAS once one of Chicagos growth stories. As Chicago growth story has always been about immigrant growth. I think a big issue going forward, is how have Latinos been served by all the woke politics? My guess is not well….watch Alderman Lopez run for mayor. Also, many of my city neighbors, friends and co-workers are from michoacan.

Here’s Alderman Lopez from back in 2020 when the Columbus statues came down. —–“What has become of Chicago? We have a mayor forced into submission by anarchy & mob-rule? No more public process, official discourse, or on-the-record debate. The lesson learned is that if you want action from Lightfoot, show up en mass at her house & she will cave every time.”

That hispanic growth never was and is not a good thing. We are creating self-sustaining third world communities on south and west sides of Chicago. These newest immigrants don’t seem to want to integrate or prosper. Majority hispanic neighborhoods have some of the lowest household incomes in the city, just barely above the places like Pullman and Englewood. New City has a per capita income of $12,765 per person. But while the former black neighborhoods are in poverty and have hollowed out populations, the hispanic neighborhoods crowded and poor. They are revitalizing neighborhoods and making them middle class. They’re just… Read more »

Sorry, they are NOT revitalizing neighborhoods and making them middle class, they just taking over and living in poverty in the US instead of Mexico.

Very true. Illegal immigration is destroying our country and Title 42 will be the nail in the coffin. Out of all the corrupt gov actions imo this is the most important to correct. Its openly criminal and hard to stomach sometimes. They want that crashed out system though. Where I hand my money over to welfare and guaranteed income invaders.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
