Lori Lightfoot accuses conservative super PAC of darkening her skin tone in an ad boosting Illinois GOP governor candidate – NBC News

The ad opens with the mayor saying, “This will be the summer of joy in Chicago.” It then cuts to sounds of gunshots, screams and scenes of shadowy figures in the streets shooting. She responded to the ad, “News flash. I’m Black and I’m proud. Everyone knows it. No need to use cheap tricks to darken my skin and try to scare voters with false narratives about Chicago."

Lori, the reason people don’t like you is because you’re an asshole!

I don’t know if Ms. Lightfoot’s assertion is true, but I do know that unless properly lighted, photos/videos of blacks can be very unflattering.

Don’t take my word for it – just watch TV and you see the difference between proper lighting of blacks (Death in Paradise and Blackish do a nice job) and almost any other shows. Matter of fact, an episode of Blackish addressed the lighting problem.

So, Ms. Mayor, you may be off the mark on this.

Maybe it’s the Super PACs way of telling her to lighten up.

Great point. But let’s assume that they did make her look darker in this ad on purpose, why does this upset Lightfoot? Is she biased against people with darker skin tones? Why does she find this insulting?

All valid – as odd as it may seem, in the black community there is discrimination based on skin color.

Apparently Ms. Lightfoot fears being a victim of that discrimination.

No doubt the claim that an “Original video” captures the real real image of someone will empower one’s conformation bias. But if pictures are more real than reality, then we must accuse the Sun Times of similar racial contrivances and dog whistles.

The mayor ought to worry about the substance of the commercial and not the rendering of her image. The former reveals the absolute threat of the city’s decline. The latter points us to the FACT that Chicago continues to elect the wrong people to lead the city.

Message to Lightfoot:
Nobody cares about your skin color, people just see incompetence when they look at you.
The majority of the country has moved on from race BS, you live in a bubble so you don’t realize it.
