Man shot in the face at North Avenue Beach; 3 cops hurt as brawls erupt in nearby streets – CWB Chicago

Officers reported that fights broke out at the beach before and after the shooting. Police moved people off the lakefront after the shooting, and more fights erupted as the crowd made its way inland.

Let them stay on the beaches – problems seem to arise when they’re shuffled into the streets.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the city’s response is to close the beaches, starting with this weekend. The Boystown parade on Sunday will require extra patrols, so there will be even fewer officers available to patrol the lakefront.

If closing the beaches is what is required to stop this civil disturbance, that is what should be done, like now.
