State Sen. Ram Villivalam has called for reforms to mass transit in the state, but also investing $1.5 billion into the system. “If we don’t do this, 40 percent of cuts in service, more than 3,000 public transit workers will get pink slips in the mail, and that we believe is not an option,” he said.
Mass transit means rental moving trucks to many. Sad to see the price today has gone from $800 to over 2k in a just a matter of days. Illinois supply and demand at work.

When an agency has lost 40% of its customers, it stands to reason that a 40% cut in service would be a requirement. As far as the bloated payroll goes, that’s how this works, Ram. When an organization loses 40% of its sales with zero chance of ever returning to the former sales level, it doesn’t simply keep everyone on the payroll. Doing so… Read more »

Mass transit doesn’t need to cut workers. They need to cut the bureaucracy and the highly paid, useless managers.
A service and headcount reduction is long overdue. The Autopen’s Coof money masked the problem. Now the executive directors are attempting to extort a tax hike to make up for the end of the Autopen’s generosity with other people’s money and pay for their mismanagement of the RTA.

I notice downstate was mentioned by Villivalam who apparently can’t see the forest for the trees. The main problem with downstate mass transit is lack of users. Down here we have empty busses running day and night, the assorted taxes and of course the usual bunch of administrators so closely tied it seems to the Illinois political system. I just wish it would all go away

“40 percent of cuts in service, more than 3,000 public transit workers will get pink slips.” Sounds like an EXCELLENT plan!

“ We must reform the system! Give us billions of dollars and we will do so.” Yeah, makes sense.
