Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Sounds like communism to me.
Worst idea ever.
“Chicago-owned grocery” store = large scale food pantry + absence of cashiers, just baggers and stockers. Given negative experiences and significant financial losses of Walmart, Whole Foods, Aldi, and Jewel stores in “historically disinvested neighborhoods”, can’t imagine why Mayor BJ would think the same problems won’t arise at a “city-owned” grocery-store.
Again, progressive agenda is never “fix the problem” focus, but rather “throw government money as work-around; ignore fundamental problem”. If for-profit grocery stores were profitable, or even just broke-even in these neighborhoods, then these chain-store groceries would still be operating there at full force-capacity.
Can we get a few buses out here in the suburbs and make a field trip to city owned store. Since I assume no restrictions on shoplifting, we can get back a few of our tax dollars
FAILED CITY ALERT: Chicago Bureaucrats Don’t Have The Management Skills To Manage A Lemonade Stand — And Now They Want To Operate A City Owned Grocery Store
If you think this is ridiculous, you ain’t seen nothing yet. This progressive stooge will simply take over any business he wants and hand over the goods to the couch dwellers, thugs and crackheads. And you best not say a word, or you’ll be called a racist. The fawning media will praise his every move.
Just like the government – run grocery stores in the old commie USSR or East Germany – or in present – day Cuba or North Korea. I guess Boy Brandon hasn’t heard the phrase “socialism doesn’t work”… but then of course he’s a fan boi of Angela Davis and Fred Hampton, lol…
Hmm, government causes a problem then announces a solution….
When the inventory of said state-owned enterprises is liberated, who will pay to restock the shelves for “free”? Say hello to your next new tax payment.
The city’s already offering minority owned subsidized ‘yellow banana’ grocery stores….but you read nothing in news about how those stores are doing?
