Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

What I don’t understand is Mansion Tax referendum was supposedly defeated, and yet Harris seems to removed Burke’s substantial lead for DA spot. If there were all these uncounted mail-in votes for Harris, why weren’t proportionate share in favor of Referendum?
Sounds like Preckwinkle’s election monitors are willing to allow defeat of Referendum, but not defeat of Harris.
It’s a great question. I have no explanation for the disparate vote on those two things.
Or people that voted for both candidates also didn’t support the mansion tax. Not everything is a conspiracy you simpleton wackos. No different than the fair tax vote.
I guess Mayor Jonson is admitting that reasonable and responsible people in Chicago CAN effectively ‘throw sand’ into the Chicago machinery of the Leftist Democrats and CTU.
