Mayor Johnson blames Richard Nixon for Chicago shootings – Wirepoints Quickpoint

Chicago had over 100 shootings during the extended Independence Day weekend. Commenting on that, Mayor Johnson had a new person to blame: Richard Nixon. Johnson said, “Black death has unfortunately been accepted in this country for far too long. And we had a chance 60y ago to fix that and people mocked President (Lyndon B) Johnson. And we got Nixon.”

That’s from Chicago Tribune reporter Alice Yin on X.

Nixon left office almost exactly 50 years ago.

In fairness, Johnson made the comment in the broader context of attributing violence to “disinvestment” in black communities, as he routinely does. He also blamed all Republicans, saying, “You have an entire political party that is protecting a lobbyist entity to make sure that illegal guns can flow through the streets.” Also in fairness, however, it’s worth remembering that trillions have been spent on the War on Poverty since President Johnson announced it in 1964. Estimates of that spending typically range from $14 to $25 trillion in today’s dollars. And Illinois already has among the strictest gun laws in the nation.

-Mark Glennon

UPDATE: The Richard Nixon Foundation posted this on X: “Mayor Johnson’s reference to President Nixon is gratuitous and the facts are not on his side in his characterization of Richard Nixon and the Nixon administration’s civil rights record.”

Lyndon Johnson “gave” Chicago Cabrini Green, Altgeld Gardens, Robert Taylor Homes, etc. He also bequeathed the “War on Poverty” and “Model Cities” programs. The first created government-run black ghettos, that warehoused black families and kept them out of sight. These ghettos were run by urban drug gangs, who recruited the children of these slums to do their dirty work. If a single mother allowed the father of her children to live with her, she lost some of her housing benefits. Get a better job; lose benefits. Get an education; lose benefits. All designed to break up the black family and… Read more »

So when United Center and the West Side burn down next month during the DNC firey but mostly peaceful riots will BJ blame Nixon and LBJ?

Yes, and maybe like Lori did during her first press conference after St. George OD on fentanyl, she can blame your long dead ancestors for the Red Summer race riots of 1919, when your fresh off the boat italian or polish great-great grandmother, who’d never met a black person in her life before moving to america, allegedly went on a lynching rampage. I remember hearing her call it the 1919 virus in her presser, and I was shocked, and then I found the youtube of her presser and I confirmed she in fact called it that. You see, your ancestors… Read more »

Actually LBJ’s failed Great Society’s now torn down concrete public housing silos has more to do with Chicago’s present societal demise than Richard Nixon.

How sad. Democrats have run Illinois, Cook County and Chicago for over 75 plus years so let’s blame the Republicans. And this guy was a teacher?

Shows you the quality of teachers in CPS. This guy isn’t smart enough to teach and has two solutions to every problem. Blame white America and spend mo-mony.

And it’s no wonder kids can’t read, add or think. In Johnson’s world, they don’t have to. They just have to pay taxes and obey.

I got out back in 1984. Moved to Texas and haven’t regretted a minute of it. If you can, get out now. Not just Chicago, the entire state.

Complicated. I’ve tried to comment several times, when CTU/Brandon continually blames the never ending violence & dysfunction in Black community on what he calls–“40 years of community dis-investment” he’s conveniently leaving out the biggest dis-inverters of all— i.e. the dem machine constitutionally guaranteed public sec stranglehold that has sucked taxpayer, homeowners, and business dry in those communities while delivering horrible unaccountable services…from CPS/CTU, to CPD/FOP, etc. Thank you Mike Madigan & crew!! Pastor C Brooks, in a complete smack-down, isn’t afraid to call call out phony “gaslighter” brando for who he truly is (https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/chicagos-mayor-plans-reparations-task-force-im-south-side-ive-got-loads-questions): The last thing we need is… Read more »

from yesterdays desperate Brando news statement, look’s like he’s now playing the race card? Who’da thunk??—–

“Remember the mass shooting that happened in Highland Park and all the services that they get? That’s what we’re asking for,” Johnson said. “That’s all what other suburban places get around the country when mass shootings happen like that. We’re just simply saying Chicago deserves that as well.”   (https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/top-cop-mayor-offer-candid-response-to-fourth-of-july-weekend-violence-that-left-more-than-100-shot/3483575/)

Never mind that even with CPD down to 11,700(?) cops Chicago still has more cops & spends more on policing per capita than almost all other big cities.

Johnson will blame anybody but himself for his pro criminal policies like letting criminals out without any consequences, poor education for kids in Chicago. There is little opportunity for uneducated kids, but keep backing CTU. The crimals are not just “kids funnin. “

Hey Brando, Lyndon made the choice not to run in 1968. What an idiot.

Knowing that would entail having an education and expecting one to do so is racist.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
