Mayor Johnson cracks the door open to city layoffs, service cuts – Chicago Sun-Times

Mayor Brandon Johnson presides over a City Council meeting Wednesday, where his green social housing initiative stalled.“We will have to deal with the realities of the billions of dollars that are being threatened by the federal government. That’s a different scenario than we were under before,” Johnson said.

If BJ starts with the CTU we’ll know he’s serious.

Those hundreds of millions of valuable tax dollars that were wasted and continue to be wasted on illegal aliens would come in pretty handy right now. But upon further review the democrats who have been in charge for decades just love destroying cities, counties, and states. Run it into the ground myself, my relatives, and my connected cronies have all had their pockets stuffed with cash.

Sure, I can agree on that. But, can you agree that Republicans are doing the same things to an even more harmful degree with federal laws and federal programs? My point is it’s morally wrongly done wherever—cities, states and nationally. You can blame Democrats for that in many of the larger cities, but when it comes to thinking about the states it’s a little harder to contemplate in that both parties participate. The MAGA Trumplicans are clearly the ones nationally who are leading the charge in the ways you’ve described. But, maybe you are a believer that “nobody can believe”… Read more »

Neither the DNC inc. or RNC inc . work for the people, or should I correctly say the citizen.
That’s our problem.

Agree on Both Parties are to blame. They work for themselves not for Citizens. Period. But, Chicago and Illinois are financially out of control. There is seemingly NO oversite at any level in Chicago or Springfield or school district or fire districts or park districts, etc. Every self serving decision that can be made, will be made and to hell with the tax payer. Their answer is “when in doubt, spend it”, go to the tax payer for more and kick the can down the road. No fiscal responsibility – ever. The ruling party does whatever it wants because they… Read more »

All the numbers all over the state say the exact opposite. The public sector is who is doing all the new hiring. This is all cheap talk, never going to happen in your lifetime.

The vast majority of six-figure city workers will likely continue to remain untouched. Therefore, the taxpayer doesn’t need to hope for any significant relief.

Mismanagement machines don’t do any significant belt-tightening unless they’re forced to do so. You’d think with the outrage of these bloated budgets that they’d be forced to do so, but they instead always seem to find a way to get another credit card to max out. We’re all hoping this practice will change in the not-too-distant future.

His rhetoric about cost cutting , improving city services, a safer city for all citizens. He b,sed all . The only ones he didn’t lie to was the teachers. Even though school ratings smell worse than my dogs poop

Six Percent, like any good socialist, has to have his play money taken away in order to make him stop spending it. It’s all his ilk understands, the stick instead of the carrot.

Give the highest paid in the nation teachers a big raise, don’t close nearly empty schools, 1,000’s in new hires while school attendance drops significantly and then blame Trump.
The revolt is coming, be prepared.

Somehow, after Brando fought tooth-&-nail for his buddies $blow-out$ hiring/spending new CTU contract, he’s implying he wants the rest of city workers to take some cuts??? Good luck with that. Plus he hasn’t wrapped up Fire Fighter/ Paramedic contract.
Taxpayer/homeowners better start practicing up grabben those ankles!!!

Yep, no layoffs or right-sizing of anything for CPS…now he wants to lay off City workers. What a transparent schmuck.

Blame it on Trump is CTU/Brandos perfect foil for the mess (the con). It’s his only card at this point. Chump taxpayers/ homeowners bare ALL risk as usual….Look for pols to play a ton of the ‘Blame it on Trump’ card throughout city & state in coming months….EQUITY!!!!

what dopey chumbalone taxpayer/ homeowners don’t understand is that for machine, fake equity hustler–CTU/Brandon & crew “Blame it on Trump” is a huge $opportunity$, not a liability, to lock in deals as all risk/ debt is 100% bore by chump taxpayer/ homeowners. You’re chump ass got no constitutional protections.

How many of all those 1,000s hired with now spent APRA-COVID $ are still on the city payrolls would be the first place an Elon would look for efficiencies. But you can bet there will be no Elons on Brando’s board. Just a lot of yes men looking for more tax revenue.
