Mayor Johnson extends parental leave benefits to teachers union in departure from Lightfoot policy – Chicago Tribune/MSN

Chicago Public Schools chief Pedro Martinez, from left, Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates hold a news conference at Chicago's City Hall on June 8, 2023, to announce changes to the CPS parental leave policy. The deal underscores a complex dynamic at City Hall under Johnson: As a longtime CTU leader whose campaign was strongly supported by labor, Johnson owes his victory in part to unions. But as mayor, he has a broader fiduciary responsibility. Asked whether the new policy is a sign of how contract negotiations with CTU will go next year, Johnson responded, “This is not a gift to the CTU.” The policy could add around $10 million to the district’s budget.

Every comment downvoted on this thread. Likely a CTU member. In my experience, the dumbest teachers in the world. I have yet to meet one CTU member who is able to grasp even vaguely average concepts and ideas. Their complete lack of employability by anyone other than the social welfare program that is CPS is likely what leads to CTU members compulsion to steal from the taxpayers and everyone around them.

Bribery repayment for the election and all on the taxpayers nickle. Democrat politicians live by corruption and theft. They have a special place in hell right alongside the hell hole for CTU members.

With cost of living increases and high tax rates in cities like New York City, Chicago and San Francisco, high income earners are looking to take advantage of more affordable areas of the country for the sake of stretching a salary significantly further. To determine how much you can save by moving to Miami, SmartAsset compared the cost of living and tax rates to those of NYC, Chicago and San Francisco for those earning $150,000 up to $650,000. High earners can save up to $200k per year by moving to Miami. Between cost of living differences and taxes, someone making $650,000 in Manhattan… Read more »

A well-timed summer conception could net the clever two-teacher family simultaneous 12-week extensions of their 2024 summer vacations. Anybody’s guess whether they’ll return in Fall, 2024. And if two couples could find two certified 5-star foster children they could trade-off each February plus get whatever booty the government provides to stand-in foster parents. Better still, they could arrange summer visits by foreign children needing medical care and get them needed treatment over the summer under their publicly funded health insurance. Think I’m crazy? Professors at a publlic university in a state adjacant to Illinois worked the visiting victim drill for… Read more »

Such a caper would require CTU members to use mathematics. Judging by the quality of their student’s math skills any “well timed summer conception” would certainly be the result of absolute dumb luck. Im also not convinced that CTU members understand the fundamental biology regarding conception and childbirth. The same people who preach that there are more than two genders likely think that babies spontaneously grow from pumpkin seeds.

What was the previous FMLA policy? I thought teachers could apply unused sick days towards maternity leave and still receive full salary and benefits for 12 weeks.

ACT 19, employment for life, no competency evaluations, requires only occasional in-person attendance…

It becomes more absurd every day.

The payback is starting. Going to cost the taxpayer thousands of dollars for each vote he got. Get ready to payout the nose for the worst education in the country.

GM,

The nuns never went on strike either and Old Joe only got 1 snow day his entire 8 years at parochial school because the convent was right next to the school. The nuns only had to walk about 30 feet to get to the school door…..those were the days and they were truly on a mission from God. My, how far we’ve fallen….

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
