Mayor Johnson to Form Task Force to Rid CPD of Extremist Groups, After 8 Month Delay – WTTW (Chicago)

Led by Deputy Mayor of Community Safety Garien Gatewood and Chief Equity Officer Carla Kupe, the task force will examine “the city’s existing policies and make appropriate recommendations to root out anyone who belongs to a hate group,” according to the mayor’s office. The mayor agreed to form the task force “because he believes that white supremacists and extremists have no place in our city’s law enforcement or in any city department."

I wonder if groups like the Latin Kings, Gangster Disciples or any of the other gangs in Chicago will be weeded out of the police department. Probably not. Hell they might even get a diversity award.

Gangs are as integrated in these communities as lawyers are in upper-middle class white communities. Everyone the ‘hood knows a gang banger – they are your siblings, cousins, friends, neighbors, upstanding community members, etc. Everyone is either in the gang, knows a gang member or is tangentially involved in a gang, just as in upper middle class white communities, everyone either is a lawyer, has a lawyer family member (or multiple), or lives near one, knows one, works with one…You can’t root them out in either case, they are unfortunately just there.

Task groups in IL exist only to hire their friends. Never accomplish any but to increase spending.

Again, who will determine what constitutes membership to a hate group or what is considered one? Will it be Proud Boys ( started as a joke, btw), MAGA, the Oath Keepers, the Fraternal Order of the Moose? This is a thinly veiled attempt to purge the ranks of the CPD and replace them with holistic, healing peace keepers and violence interruptors, plain and simple.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
