McDonald’s plans to expand West Loop HQ, but CEO says city needs to ‘face facts’ about downtown business climate – Chicago Tribune/MSN

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski has heard from governors and mayors seeking to woo McDonald’s headquarters out of Chicago and said it was more difficult for him to convince executives to relocate to the city than it was a few years ago. Now, when discussing return-to-office plans, Kempczinski hears concerns from employees who aren’t sure it’s safe to work downtown. “It’s a lot of times easy to say, well, that’s just perception. That’s not reality. In our business, other people’s perception becomes our reality."

If the McDonald’s CEO is sincere about his crime concerns, why on earth is he moving more people into the hot zone?

Couldn’t believe when McD moved from a crime-free lush campus to Chicago. What were they thinking?

What a hoot!

“Yeah, things are really bad in Chicago and not getting better so we’re going to reward the city for Lori’s failures by leasing additional space downtown, and forcing more of our employees put up with it.”

That’ll teach her…..

With so many people working from home there are fewer victims for criminals to choose from. The crime rate is probably higher than in the past and any one who chooses to risk downtown is is more likely to be ___________ you choose – – – assaulted, robbed, injured, murdered, carjacked or elected as an alderman.

The crime fears are a little overblown, go back to the 80s and early 90s and crime was far worse. Additionally this new type of brazen, daylight, carjacking and mugging at random is happening everywhere in this country, including the suburbs. It shouldn’t be but it is and our liberal DA’s are emboldening it. If I were the CEO of McD’s I’d be far more concerned with the anti business climate and taxes than random crime, which is not particularly bad in the West Loop. The distance from the Metra station is also far, seemed like a dumb place to… Read more »

The 80’s and 90’s were really, really bad, and if you’re using that time period as a comparison, then Chicago has already lost the battle against the perception that we are a crime ridden hell hole. The difference back then was the the city wasn’t nearly as gentrified so crime was spread out over more neighborhoods in the city. Think Cabrini Greens spreading crime all over Old Town/Lincoln Park, etc. Henry Horner homes all over the west loop. Like you say above, the brazen, daylight, carjacking and mugging at random, are happening everywhere in the city, instead of just the… Read more »

849 HOMICIDES PLACE 1990 IN A SAD RECORD BOOK https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1991-01-02-9101010308-story.html Deborah Smiths death on the last Sunday of the year ended a long and bloody list of homicides in Chicago in 1990. Smith, 32, was found naked in the bedroom of an abandoned single family home at 635 W. 60th St., in the Englewood neighborhood. The woman had been killed by a blow to the back of the head, said Brighton Park Violent Crimes Sgt. Ronald Palmer. No one has been arrested in the case. Smith was the 849th homicide recorded in Chicago in 1990, the sixth highest annual murder… Read more »

Do yourself a huge favor and never eat at McDonald’s. As for their problems in luring their employees back to work, they made a very poor business choice and now they’ll deal with the consequences. That’s what they deserve after poisoning the population with their garbage meals.

Does anyone still eat at McDonald’s? If you take out all the salt and sugar from their food all you have left is the packaging.

Hey McDonald’s CEO – HATE HAS NO HOME HERE.
Take your cisgendered hetero-normative white supremacist views elsewhere.
Crime is mostly diverse and that’s what gives us our strength.
Now donate $10,000,000 to these Democrat activist organizations, bigot.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
