So far, more than 1,000 people in Illinois have been approved for rental assistance, with around $8.6 million disbursed and about 600 landlords renting to new arrivals, the agencies said. As of earlier this month, 548 of these households approved for rental assistance have signed leases for permanent housing in Chicago, with 271 of those households having moved in, according to a statement from the city.
So, it looks like you don’t have to be a “new arrival” migrant bused from Texas or otherwise to apply for 3 months free rent + additional $15,000? If your one of the zillions of CURRENT undocumented imigrants you can simply go to city shelter claiming your homeless and then apply for city/state benefits?? You can even have income 80% or below the area median income and still apply!! Outrageous!!
And meanwhile, in my nw side hood there’s all kinds of folks living in the parks, bus shelters, etc.
EQUITY!!!
If your a regular US citizen homeless person, or advocate for, are you going to file lawsuit claiming discrimination that non-citizen migrant homeless are receiving disproportionately greater $services$ than you?
The city’s homeless program is discriminatory because it bizarrely sets TWO differnt standards and funding for loosely defined “new arrival” migrants and US citizen homeless. Is the current definition and funding for “new arrival” migrants legal or equal?

Chicago and IL moving ‘heaven and earth’ to accommodate illegal aliens. Citizen taxpayers – just pay up and move along.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
