I’m a retired Chief of Police who was against the red light cameras when all I heard from the politicians was “revenue generation”. Nothing said about possible improvements in traffic safety. Then I started learning how some municipalities were issuing bogus tickets for technical violations of the law (I personally received a ticket because my front tires were over the stop line at the intersection). What a sham! The state should ban all of them.

They took the red light cams out by my house because they weren’t producing enough income. Ideally the way to do it would be to mandate any and all revenues above the monthly rental fee go to a non profit like Make A Wish foundation. You’d still pay the ticket but you would know you made a dying child’s dream a reality.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
What ever happened to the red light district?
