Moving company study shows more people left Illinois than any other state last year – Center Square

“Illinois is primarily about work and cost of living,” Allied President Steve McKenna said. “People are looking to lower their cost of living by buying the Sun Belt.”

No surprise. Check out Tennessee. No state income tax. Low property taxes. Sales tax about the same as Illinois. Milder winters. The state is just sitting here waiting for Illinois residents to discover it. Some already have.

I think this is incorrect. Yes, moving company and housing data show that people are leaving. But that data does not capture the replacement residents. For that, you have to look closer at the data, school enrollment, and census data, it seems that many of those leaving are being replaced by poor latin american immigrants. They are NOT using moving trucks to get here. They are NOT buying homes when they arrive. They don’t have papers and they cram into apartments by the dozens in the city and throughout working class apartment complexes in the suburbs. They’re moving to smaller… Read more »
