Moving migrants from police stations is ‘top priority,’ Mayor Johnson says on tour of new welcome center at Clemente high school – Chicago Tribune*

Mayor Brandon Johnson, left, and Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez announce the opening of a migrant welcome center at Roberto Clemente Community Academy.As of Monday, 878 newly arrived migrants were staying inside police stations and 69 at O’Hare International Airport, according to the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communication; More than 100 migrants in those settings were children. About 3,200 new arrivals have exited the city’s shelter system so far, aldermen were told Friday, while about 5,300 remain. CPS added $15 million for English language learning services to this school year’s budget.

To clarify: Second City Cop blog is back as of July 1, 2023. They closed down January 13, 2021 because the blog said, “Over the weekend, we received information from a contact at Google that internal chat/e-mails led them to believe that certain precautions we had taken over the years had been breached by Google. We had gotten similar warnings from others in the past, and we dealt with or ignored them as the situation warranted. But this one was different.” Glad to see the site up and running again.
