New bill requires Illinois schools to teach Latin American history and culture – WTVO (Rockford)

Under HB4372, students would learn about contributions in government, the arts, humanities, and sciences, along with the effects of colonialism on Latin American societies. Similar requirements related to Black history, Asian American history, and Native American history have passed in recent legislative sessions.

Hmm.. wondering if they will touch on the mass slaughter of native peoples at sacrificial temples by the Mayans, Incas, etc. ? Think they’ll touch upon the fact that Mao is easily the most prolific mass murderer in history? Any word as to the genocide routinely practiced in Africa that continues to this day? Just curious.

Better to teach the gringos Spanish so they can communicate with their future bosses … who might actually be more sensible than those who run things now.

How about schools teaching reading, spelling, math, science, civics, American and world history? Stop teaching identity politics. Require schools to educate students, not indoctrinate them. Who’s political connnected that would benefit from this?

Math and reading scores are in the toilet, but the Gen Ass wants this added to the curriculum. Marvelous!

CPS should prioritize teaching Reading and Writing where they are failing miserably.

Ask students who the first American president was, who bombed Pearl Harbor or which came first, the Revolution or the Civil War and the majority get it wrong. Basic American history. These are old studies and their knowledge is less and less. So why learn about all these other histories when they don’t know American history?

Wow, I’ll try to refrain from the obvious jokes. Not sure when the requirements of Black history, Asian American history, and Native American history were enacted. My kids graduated from HS appox 7- 10 years ago. (Catholic) I don’t remember their history classes focused on segmenting the history on ethnic/racial divisions.

I am wondering on the Asian-American history jumped ahead of Latin American in getting enacted into law.

How about learning US History?
