Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Giving non-vetted non-Americans the right to carry guns and arrest people — what could go wrong
Isn’t there a background check requirement for law-enforcement recruitment? Doesn’t a “law-enforcement officer” position require applicant to not be a known felon, to have not committed any felonies? Isn’t “illegal entry into US of non-citizen” a felony, even if now selectively enforced? INS is unable to confirm past history background of many “new migrants” arriving via illegally without authorized visa application, and appears to process them quickly, without formal investigation, merely assigned a court-date in distant future. Now Pritzker thinks it’s a good idea to grant these “new migrants” to become law-enforcement officers, badge and gun? Pritzker and Illinois progressive… Read more »

This is a wonderful idea. Let’s get a bunch of people who broke the law by coming here, continue to break the law by not reporting on time, and continue to break the law by faking asylum status– and make them law enforcement officers. I’m sure they will do a great job at law enforcement once they have a badge and a gun.
