New figures show tourists flocked back to Chicago in 2022 – Crain’s*

Officials from Choose Chicago announced today that visitation to the city during 2022 was up 60% from 2021 as public health restrictions faded and a surge of leisure travelers poured in during peak tourism months. The total, reported by the city's official destination marketing group using data from travel research firm DK Shifflet, was roughly 80% of the 2019 figure, when the city boasted a record 60.8 million visitors.

Yup, stats apparently include new migrants bused to Chicago from Texas, because there’s certainly less foot-traffic at Chicago O’Hare International Terminal.

By the way, International Terminal is an embarrassment. Dirty, haphazard, duct-tape everywhere, certainly not “best foot forward” welcome for international visitors.

80% of 2019? Nonsense, I don’t believe this for a second. Who are the 50,000,000 tourists that allegedly visited Chicago? Are the visiting Schaumburg or Orland Park? Am I called a tourist when I leave Cook County to go to DuPage County to visit Oak Brook Mall?
