New office at WIU promotes equity and inclusivity – WIUM (Macomb)

Carl Ervin is interim director of the new Office of Justice, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity. He said of the students he works with, “If they can grow, expand, and reach their full potential without these obstacles of complicit bias, unconscious bias, (and) things that get in the way. If we can help our students to feel better, if we can help our students by making the institution a fairer place, then yes, it’s fair. It’s right.”

Illinois’s average SAT score in 2021 was 1007, which was 53 points below the national average of 1060. The average SAT score for admissions at Western is 1020, which is still 40 points below the national average. WIU graduates earn an average of $35,000 upon graduation. That’s the equivalent of $17.50 an hour. Menards hires entry level cashiers for this pay rate. Why even go to college at WIU for this pay? This is all proof that WIU isn’t about education, it’s about indoctrination, that’s why they just appointed another commissar to ensure that indoctrination and not education is occurring.… Read more »

And if were black WIU would be my *last* choice, the place is strictly Hicksville…it’s Hooterville sans the “glamor”…

I grew up in rural Western Illinois, and even I couldn’t stand more that one quarter at WIU, so I transferred to the “Bright Lights, Big City” of ISU in Normal, lol,,,

This is the kind of administrative bloat — layers of DEI-do-nothings that outnumber actual educators 4 to 1 — that makes college cost too much, and puts students hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt — for worthless degrees in gender and oppression studies

All though you are right, you shouldn’t be concerned about their student debt. After all, you and I will be paying it as long as Joe is around and the students shouldn’t worry, just be happy.

The reality is that no one is paying the student debt right now, because it is estimated that more than 99% of student loan borrowers STOPPED paying their student loans during the pandemic during the forbearance period. Those selective few who kept paying mostly used the opportunity to pay them off or pay down the balances because zero interest accrued. That’s insane. There are doctors, lawyers, professors, accountants, consultants, ad execs, brand managers, earning $100k+ with student loans, and ALMOST OF THEM just stopped paying during the forbearance period. That’s complete insanity. Even before the automatic forbearance, IIRC (and the… Read more »

Yeah since Western is one of the failing/shrinking state schools, this should *really* be a “priority” for them – NOT…!!!

It qualifies them for:

” …director of the new Office of Justice, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity.”

Happy I could clarify that for you, The Railroader.

And if that doesn’t pan out, they can run Democrat cities – no experience or qualifications required.

Pat, don’t be so formal. ‘Railroader’ will do.

And…that’s just what I was thinking the job would be. Institutionalized DEI is an utterly useless fad that can’t be over fast enough.

He should tell the students that they should study Mandarian to get ahead of the curve.

So after you graduate with a degree in African American Studies, what job does this prepare the graduate for?
