New push to protect Illinois workers from extreme cold after subzero week – FOX32 (Chicago)

Supporters say the bill is urgently needed after this week’s arctic blast, when schools closed, transit shut down, and cities opened warming centers while thousands of workers still had to show up to load baggage on frozen tarmacs, deliver packages, and work in warehouses that felt like refrigerators. .... "Climate change is not some far away or future health threat. It is harming Illinois workers now," said a supporter.

I can only imagine the look on the old Trainmaster’s face if I whined about it being cold in winter. If I tried to impose my Climate Religion on his division, I would be employed elsewhere with a punt to the posterior.

To the Climate Clerics: You know we can remember the whole global warming scam, right? This was right after Leonard Nimoy warned of a coming Ice Age on ‘In Search of…” and right before the ten years of cooling with have now enjoyed. The climate scam is over. Go away.

Railroader, you hit the nail on the head I would have been fired like yourself if we said to the yard master I can’t work it’s to cold out or to hot. People have turned into nothing but cry babies and they wonder why technology and AI are taking over there jobs.

People have, unfortunately, become opportunists eager to use any excuse to have a paid day off. Today is yet another “ action day “ in which all the downtrodden are supposed to drop their tools, throw off their yokes and march, ironically in the freezing cold that is too brutal to work in. America has become a welfare system nation.

Can’t wait for the Illinois dimwits to write a law that people don’t have to show up if the temp is below freezing. It is easy to see a full-fledged debate where CTU doesn’t think they should drive their full-pensioned rear ends into work if it is too cold, and that will become the law of the land. Then what will stop it from 40 degrees, then 50? Can we drive more business out of the state by requiring employers to pay for cold days? Stop this carousel – taxpayers want to get off.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
