This is a perfect example of the cynical use of language. Saying that “pension benefits” have grown over the duration of the analysis implies that benefits to each individual have grown. They have not. What has grown is the “pension liabilities” of the system, which happens as more people enter the system and/or future benefits increase the longer someone is in the system (and continues to pay into the system out of their paycheck) before retiring. Here and there Wirepoints does note (in parentheses) that what they are really talking about is pension liabilities, but the headline term is “benefits.”… Read more »
