No more loopholes for squatters: Bill allowing police to treat them as trespassers heads to governor’s desk – WCIA (Champaign)

If signed into law, anyone living in a house, apartment, or on land without permission from the owner will be treated as a trespasser. This would give police the right to forcefully remove them from the property without a drawn-out court process.

Don’t punish lawbreakers—let law-abiding citizens bear the costs of damage instead. This law is mere window dressing by the Democratic Party. Police struggle to solve even violent crimes; what chance do they have against squatters? This measure was passed to boost poll numbers, but it’s unlikely to lead to real action.

Noticed that Rep. Ford made it clear that he didn’t want squatters harmed. Don’t worry. Squatters and other criminals are treated very well in Chicago. Squatters can ruin a property and assault homeowners with no consequences. The squatters I dealt with years ago were drug dealers and thieves who had committed crimes across three states–IL, KY, and TN. I did my own research–Chicago police can’t/won’t help you. Thank you to Tennessee law enforcement for sending one of the squatters to prison for drug trafficking.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
