No objection to waiving court fees for low-income defendants, Cook County state’s attorney says – Chicago Sun-Times

leighton_ext2b.jpeg“One of the tragedies of the criminal justice system is that a disproportionate amount of its financing is shouldered by people of color and those living in poverty,” State’s Attorney Kim Foxx said in a statement. “Rather than end the cycles of racial disparities and criminalization, fees and fines perpetuate them.”

Great– another freebie.. Subsidized utilities, CTA passes, Section 8 housing, Medicaid, Obama phones, food stamps, public schools, free school meals– and now even free court fees for criminals. All government needs to hand out now is free cable TV and flat panel 4k TVs and you won’t need anything else to live in Chicago.
