Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Hey, that seems good to me! No more school taxes. There are some obvious downsides, though. We would have all the ramped-up problems that children with nothing to do all day are going to create—bad for civilized society generally and bad for them individually. We’d likely go back to the era of children working at young ages and being preyed upon in various ways because of it. Chicago schools will open back up after January 17th. If it’s good enough for IL SOS then it’s good enough for CTU members. The mayor can whine and complain along with all of you but it won’t be happening until at least after The Kings Birthday. Why hasn’t this hash tag of a leader issued a executive order ordering CTU and teachers back into the classroom why Pritzker why because your pockets were lined with campaign contributions your are a total failure Pritzker.
Yet magically all the kids will receive good grades and everyone graduates. The fraud being perpetrated by the CTU will damage all the lives of the young people entrusted to it. These young people are the most likely to stay in Illinois and get saddled with the task of bailing out this fiscal nightmare.
