Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. $690 million! Is it any wonder that there are 2 administrators to every 1 student?
And Qutar isn’t getting much in terms of educational value, according to this article, which makes you wonder what their real motivation is. https://dailynorthwestern.com/2024/05/20/campus/in-focus-as-northwestern-considers-another-decade-in-qatar-some-nu-q-students-say-campus-falls-short-of-promises/
You act if Qutar gave Wire Points a large check you would refuse it.
Motives are impossible to say, look at the Mayor of the Chitty. What is his motives?

To the extent the writer reported accurately, Northwestern would clean-up its act subject to cutting-off federal funding. Predict that our government won’t do anything to resolve the issues. Financially, it’s just another taxpayers lose scenario.
The author is a recent Northwestern journalism grad. That, and implied benefit of any deal Northwestern has with the middle east media network, was odd.
LOL they’re all scumbags, these academics.
The funding by Qatar falls under ‘sponsors of terrorism’ IMHO. The CCP ‘Confucius Institutes’ were shut down at American colleges – same thing needs to happen here or remove every thin dime of Federal taxpayer funding.
$690M!!!?? Holy Crap! Why in the world would this crap hole of country donate that kind of cash to a US university? Can only assume that their intensions are nefarious.
It’s not really surprising that when one connects the dots re the Hamas backers, there is a trail of money leading to Soros, Iran etc. The notion that the champions for Hamas, Hezbollah et al are doing it out of humanitarian concern is really quite laughable.
