Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The quality of public education can be compared to the quality of US autos prior to competition from the Japanese. The union rules are often stifling and there is endless negotiating. The IELRA is very pro union (passed when Republican Jim Thompson was Governor). The best way to improve public education in Illinois is competition, including choice beyond charter schools. These lazy commies do not want to come back back to teach ever. They wanted a vaccine, they skipped the line in front of the elderly, disabled, immune compromised and cancer and heart patients. At one of the last faculty meetings I attended, a faculty member from the English Dept. berated the Biology teacher for keeping a spider in a plexiglass cage in his lab. “They lays eggs in your hair!” She kept shouting. The spider was removed.
Many CPS teachers are quite ignorant of even their own subject area but quite cunning in surviving. Hence, no shot on record means stay at home and get paid.
The CTU operates in bad faith so openly, so brazenly, they don’t even try to hide it. People should care about this, but no one does anything about it. Sickening.
