Oak Park resident makes the case for reparations – Crain’s*

"Reparations are a means of addressing the wealth and opportunity gaps that residents experience due to historic racism and discrimination.... I would like to see a long-term reparations plan that gives Black people the opportunity to build community and wealth in Oak Park. That might be direct grants to Black residents, low-interest business and real estate loans, tax reimbursements, child care, community spaces, and revisions to the school curriculum, among many other possibilities."

We thought about about buying a house there 10 years ago for the proximity to downtown and historic charm but this was when they shut down the white guy at a city council meeting saying white males dont get to speak. Then they took down the amazing WPA murals that depicted life in Oak Park in 1930 because there were no POC in them, nevemind there were probably no POC in Oak Park in 1930. My wife and I said these people are insane and it’s forever off our list of places to live and even visit. Spending money there… Read more »

The SJWs of Oak Park don’t need your money. They’re some of the most prominent and richest residents in the county, and they work for the largest businesses and professional law firms. Even our State Senate President lives in Oak Park in a large, fancy house. His wife, is the managing partner of Sidley’s Chicago office and a partner in the firm’s Global Finance practice area, focusing on financial transactions and commercial law. For those who aren’t familiar with Sidley, it is the 11th largest law firm in the country with 1,800 attorneys. It has global revenue of $2.5 Billion… Read more »

Disparities are a matter of class, not race. Disparities are a matter of educational achievement, not race. Plenty of struggling white working-class folks in Rust Belt Midwest to extinguish merit of “race is only issue” regarding wealth gaps here in America. Let’s have John Rodgers and Melody Hodges discuss reparations in regards to their own personal stories. Easy to spend community monies. Harder when these “equity” issues come home to your own household upheavals. These same virtue-signaling Oak Park SJW white-collar… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
