Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Remember, there are a plethora of neighborhood groups that get a nice chunk of funding from CTU. Wouldn’t be surprised if these groups weren’t putting pressure on individual parents to keep their kids at home to strengthen CTU’s bargaining position.
So very few children returned to the schools after so many parents didn’t indicate they wanted to continue with e-learning. How convoluted can this soap opera get? Stay tuned we might get a work stoppage by people who right to not return to work is being denied them.
