“It [the property tax] was affordable until last August when they did a reassessment and the property in the back went from a market value of $107,000 to $752,000 in tax dollars," Sandra Kucala said. “It [the tax bill] went from $3,000 a year in taxes to $17,000. We can’t even sell it [the property] with the taxes being that high. Even if we didn't eat, we wouldn't be able to afford what they wanted on their payment plan,”
They should have called Ed Burke for help, oh, wait, he’s in jail. Maybe Mike Madigan could help, oh wait, he’s on his way to jail.

Awful, infuriating, and just sad. No one should have to go through what these people are going through.

Welcome to Blue State property tax assessments, where your assessment increases are limitless, and the government pensions guaranteed. Think south Cook County suburbs are in death spiral due to their enormous property tax burdens. And no, I don’t want to subsidize them.

Sounds like they have been WAY underpaying for years. 17K for a house and several lots in Orland, sounds correct to me.

So they went from 17,000 to 3,000, that’s a 14,000 change. These tax attorneys typically charge 1/3 of the savings and sometimes they do it for multiple years. Looks like the county error still cost this couple roughly $4,600. Bet they don’t even get an “I’m Sorry” from the county.

Well, someone has to pay the Pensions…sure as hell isn’t going to be the Politicians or the bureaucrats in government – its going to be us chumps who stay…
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
