Over vocal opposition, Manteno board clears way for $2 billion Chinese-owned EV battery plant championed by Pritzker- Chicago Tribune/Yahoo

Patrick Young, president of the Kankakee and Iroquois Building Trades, backed the project because the company signed a labor agreement saying they’re going to use “100% of union crafts” for part of the project as well as any “ancillary work,” such as for improvements to area roads and a nearby bridge. “It’s going to generate revenue. Listen, not every student that’s going to Manteno High School is going to go to college,” said Young, also a representative for Local 150 for the International Union of Operating Engineers. “Manufacturing is gone from Kankakee County. This is bringing manufacturing back.”

Another crap Tribune article. Attempts to dismiss critics as right wing even though poll shows overwhelming statewide opposition. Completely understates the volume of evidence on Gotion’s connection to CCP. Ignores the $7.5 billion federal subsidy for the Gotion IL plant.

Americans cannot get enough of the products made in China. Mark how many Apple Phones in your family, Nike Shoes, Clothes, TV’s, etc.? Made in America now is made all over the world. Unions destroyed many American manufacturing business. Now Buy in America is popular, a little too late. Every US company has ties to the US Government, all over Europe it is the same. Governments… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
