Pictures of a planned community center decorate the storage containers upon which Pastor Corey Brooks camps. It's how Brooks and Project H.O.O.D. plan to fight the rampant poverty and violence in the Woodlawn community. "We have to build this center. It's urgent. It's dire. Kids in this neighborhood are dying every single day," he said.
It’s going to get pretty hot on that roof in the upcoming weeks/months, with the sun beating down, and temps exceeding 110 degrees…more like hell than heaven… But as the bible says, God helps those who help themselves, this man should stop asking for a handout, and instead, emulate the monks or the sisters of the various orders around the world that have created self-sustaining enterprises, such as breweries, or making jams, or running food pantries, or rehabbing homes in the community. I’m no sage, and no one can understand God’s will, but if camping on a roof for 100… Read more »
Interesting analysis. I’m a fan and supporter of the pastor and believe his vision would make a difference in the community. Growing up in Chicago I spent a lot of time at the Wrightwood Park and field house and at Christopher House on Altgeld. Those two locations were magnets for kids.

There’s nothing wrong with providing care and help to the poor – but often, those religious orders focused their attention in areas mostly receptive to their teachings in the first… Read more »

Lol… I really admire this guy, but he’s pretty much just shouting into the wind…
