Police, firefighters in suburban Harvey furloughed as city faces ‘severe financial emergency’ – NBC5 (Chicago)

The move comes less than a week after Harvey City Council voted unanimously to designate the city as "financially distressed." According to reports, the city has more than $100 million in debt after decades of financial mismanagement and federal investigations during former mayor Eric Kellogg's tenure, with the State Comptroller still seizing funds.

Yeah, this state has its priorities straight.

Gee, it sure would be nice to have the money Henyard squandered on hair weaves, trips to Vegas, hiring relatives/ boyfriends and a 165K SUV (!) right about now. If IL only had an AG that investigated such things…

Henyard was mayor of Dolton. But your point about investigating thievery is valid.

My bad. I thought Henyard was also an administrator for Harvey township, but in reality it was Thornton. I do recall a female mayor of color in Harvey giving herself a whopping ( 60K?) raise for her last year in office. Certainly helped her pension, I’ll bet. I also recall the “ chicken wings delivered through one door and out another “ scandal, approximately worth 1M, in the Harvey school lunch program. Must be something in the water in the south suburbs.
