Police to Drop College Credit Requirement for Some Recruits Amid Attrition Spike: Top Cop – WTTW (Chicago)

Applicants who have at least three years of professional experience in the social services, health care, education or trade industries would not have to show any college credit, as well as those who have worked as private security guards, correctional officers or for other law enforcement agencies. “Life experience makes a very big difference,” said Deputy Chief Antoinette Ursitti.

Good. If a 25 year old with no college but is a wiz at developing software can pull down upwards of 100K, then so should a cop. College doesn’t give someone talent, ambition and the love for the profession outweigh what college provides. College doesn’t necessarily make a good cop.

I have a degree in Poetry with a minor in Music Appreciation I would make an excellent street cop.

It might be wise to watch the movie Serpico to see what happens when unqualified recruits get into law enforcement for all the wrong reasons. Much of the world is known for its corrupt local police forces taking bribes to look the other way or shaking down non-offenders for a few pesos which is something our first world police forces mostly avoid. Try bribing a cop for a traffic ticket and see where that gets you – a trip to 26th and Cal. How low will the standards have to go to attract candidates? This is a self fulfilling prophecy, as unqualified candidates will be hired, resulting in bad decisions at critical moments, followed by protests and cries to defund the police. Rinse and repeat. Big blue cities in flames, pictures at 11:00.
