Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Also, let’s be honest, IL republicans say this wouldn’t help. Then again, how much worse can things get for IL Republicans? They have super-minorities in the legislature and hold zero statewide offices. How much worse could it get if Blago were freed?
And as Bob pointed out below, if Rod has any dirt on Madigan, he’d have significant personal interest in spilling it to the feds.
If Blago runs against Pritzker next election, I bet Blago wins. It’s not that anyone likes Blago, it’s just that Pritzker will be so unpopular as Illinois deteriorates the next few years.
If that happens I’ll commute my vote for Trump, because this will prove Orange Julius is as much a RINO as Rauner is.
Ah let’s just see, there’s a lot of talk. 14 years is not proportional to his crimes. His real crime was messing with Obama’s seat. He didn’t personally profit from any of this. he’s been in there 7 years.
The judge said he was giving a harsh sentence to deter future politicians (which obviously did not work). Doesn’t seem fair to punish Blago for reasons other than his crimes – punishing him to deter other politicians is a not real reason.
Wouldn’t it be fun if ole Rod will be or has been helping the Feds worm their way into the Madigan Cartel ? If I were in his shoes thats exactly what I would be doing
